Tree planting

Adults tree planting session

Saturday
Facilitated by Greenpop, Aardwolf, Tree Whisperer and Platbos Forest Conservation Trust teams

This is the heartbeat of Reforest Fest! Join the Greenpop community for an inspiring morning of ecosystem restoration. After a high-energy group warm-up and a scenic walk to the site, our expert facilitators will lead team demos to ensure everyone can plant a tree with confidence. Then you'll spend your morning getting your hands in the soil, fueled by incredible team spirit as we plant 5000+ trees and leave a living legacy for generations to come.

What to bring: A spade, closed-toe shoes, sun hat, water bottle, and your best Treevolutionary energy.

Kids tree planting session

Saturday
Facilitated by Greenpop, Aardwolf, Tree Whisperer and Platbos Forest Conservation Trust teams

Why let the adults have all the fun? Our youngest tree planters get their own priority site for a morning of discovery and dirty fingernails. After the big group warm-up, families take a short walk to a dedicated zone close to the action. You’ll get a kid-friendly demo on how to give a tree its best start in life before getting to work. It’s the perfect way for kids to connect with the earth and see that they have the power to help the planet grow.

What to bring: Spades, closed-toe shoes, sun hats, water bottles, and big smiles.

The story of this land: past, present and future

Friday, 15h00

This session at our Ubuntu Stage provides the festival community with an introduction to the history and ecology of the Uilenkraal Valley and Greenpop’s reforestation work more broadly. We hear from local experts who speak to the cultural and natural heritage of the area, current stewardship activities, and the vision for the land moving forward. Speakers will include Georgina Hamilton, Francois Krige, Chris Nash, and Sara Featherston. The session will be accompanied by performances from Sky Dladla and Craig Makhosi.

The bridges to environmental action

Saturday, 14h30

Ecological restoration is not a niche interest; it is the essential foundation for our economies, our health, and our social justice. In this high-energy session at the Ubuntu Stage, a sequence of TED-style talks will reveal the bridges that connect our professional and personal passions to the planet. We will explore ten diverse pathways to action — from regenerative finance and business strategy with Renata Minerbo and Kevin James, to public health and spiritual stewardship with Prof. Bob Mash and Rev. Dr. Rachel Mash, to food and water security from Alex Kruger and Phumelele Muthali. Talks will be punctuated with music from Siso Nkambule and poetry by Vuyo Mthetho.

Bringing nature to the table

Sunday, 08h50

On Sunday at the Ubuntu Stage, we gather around a central table — representing the boardroom tables, negotiation tables, kitchen tables, and coffee tables where daily decisions are made — to ask: How can we ensure that the interests of nature are heard? Through a series of deep-dive interviews, we will explore Earth jurisprudence with Lesai Seema, regenerative business strategy with Nina Callaghan, and grassroots food resilience with Ina Wilkie. We will conclude by considering the internal governance of our own spirits and how we care for ourselves while caring for the planet.
